Medford City Council Allocates $570,000 to Support Local Projects

Medford, Oregon- The Medford City Council has approved the allocation of $570,000 in funding for a range of local projects and programs aimed at enhancing the community’s well-being. These funds, part of the Council Community Initiative Funds, are sourced from local and state marijuana tax revenue and will target public spaces, educational opportunities, cultural preservation, and community health.

The approved funds will support the following initiatives:

  • Rogue Rapids Swim Scholarships ($10,000): This program will provide swim scholarships to local youth, promoting water safety and increasing access to recreational activities for families in Medford.
  • Downtown Medford Association ($125,000): An investment designed to support the revitalization of downtown Medford, enhancing its appeal for residents and visitors by creating a more vibrant, engaging space.
  • Park Strip Restoration ($100,000): These funds will be used to restore privately owned park and planter strips, contributing to the city’s greenery and sustainability efforts.
  • Children’s Museum Scholarships ($100,000): This allocation will ensure that children from diverse backgrounds have access to educational exhibits and programs, fostering creativity and learning.
  • Southern Oregon Alliance of Physician Partners ($100,000): Funding will support healthcare initiatives led by local physicians, aimed at improving health services and outcomes in the Medford community.
  • Alba Park Fountain Restoration ($50,000): These funds will go towards the restoration of the historic Alba Park fountain, preserving a local landmark and enhancing one of the city’s key public spaces.
  • Southern Oregon Historical Society ($50,000): Funding will aid in preserving the region’s cultural heritage, ensuring that the history of Southern Oregon is celebrated and shared with future generations.
  • Consumer Credit Counseling Services ($35,000): This support will fund financial literacy programs, providing residents with tools and knowledge to better manage their finances and achieve greater financial stability.

These initiatives are expected to have a broad and lasting impact on the community by improving public spaces, expanding access to educational opportunities, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting health and financial well-being in Medford.
