Structure Fire Spreads and Burns 8-Acres East of Medford

Rural Medford, Oregon- Jackson County Fire District 3 (JCFD3) responded to a grass fire and structure fire on the 9000 block of E. Antelope Road, east of Medford, yesterday afternoon. The grassfire, estimated at 8 acres, prompted a rapid response from firefighting teams.

Crews on scene launched an aggressive initial attack, successfully knocking down flames on one side of the fire. Resources were focused on halting the fire’s spread. Fire District 3 deployed five engines, two bulldozers, a water tender, and a firefighting crew.

Additionally, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) ordered one Type 1, one Type 3, and two Type 2 helicopters to assist in fire suppression efforts. Structural firefighting units were also engaged to address the structure fire.

By 6:50 PM, firefighters had knocked down all active flames and established hose lines across the affected area to secure water access. Fire lines were being finalized, and mop-up operations were set to commence.

Officials report helicopters may continue operating in the area to aid in extinguishing any remaining hot spots. Crews remained on-site overnight to monitor the situation and ensure the fire does not reignite.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There were no reported injuries.
