Linn County, Oregon- A single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 225 resulted in one fatality and two serious injuries on August 30, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m., prompting a response from the Oregon State Police.
According to the preliminary investigation, Dustin Andrew Brown, 45, of Sweet Home, was driving a black Hyundai Santa Fe northbound on I-5 when he made an evasive maneuver to avoid a rear-end collision. Brown lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll over. Brown and two passengers, Olivia Shannon Matney, 19, and Matthew Jay Martinez Mendez, 19, both of Sweet Home, were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. The vehicle came to rest on top of Brown.
Oregon State Troopers, with the help of nearby motorists, lifted the vehicle off Brown. Despite these efforts, Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.
Life Flight was initially activated but was later canceled due to airspace conflicts with a civilian drone in the area. Both passengers were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that none of the individuals involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Brown and Matney were father and daughter.
The crash impacted traffic on the highway for approximately 2.5 hours as authorities conducted an on-scene investigation. The Oregon State Police were assisted by Halsey Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
