Thieves Target Elderly Woman at Grants Pass Grocery Store

Grants Pass, Oregon-The Grants Pass Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects involved in a recent fraud case targeting an elderly woman. The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at approximately 2:00 PM, in the parking lot of the Albertsons grocery store located on Allen Creek Road.

According to the police report, while the elderly woman was loading her groceries into her vehicle, a male suspect wearing a white hat approached her. He pretended to be ill and asked for directions to a hospital, distracting the woman. During this distraction, a second male suspect, identified by his plaid shirt, reportedly stole the woman’s debit card from her purse.

Following the theft, the suspects used the stolen debit card to make several large purchases and withdrawals at various stores throughout the Grants Pass area. The exact amount stolen has not been disclosed, but the police described the transactions as excessive.
