Shoplifter Arrested Following Armed Incident at Market of Choice in Ashland

Ashland, Oregon- Friday, June 21, 2024, at 12:44 p.m., officers from the Ashland Police Department responded to a report of an uncooperative shoplifter armed with a gun at Market of Choice, located at 1475 Siskiyou Boulevard. The suspect had fled to the Pines Trailer Park across Walker Avenue from the grocery store.

Upon arrival, officers received information that the suspect was hiding within a specific area of the trailer park. The officers established a perimeter and requested assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) K9 team. Several deputies from the JCSO, along with personnel from the Oregon State Police and the Talent Police Department, responded to the call for support.

The JCSO K9 team tracked the suspect and located him hiding underneath one of the residences in the trailer park. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Thomas Harley Epperson of Ashland, was taken into custody without further incident. Shortly thereafter, the weapon Epperson had pointed at the loss prevention officer was found and determined to be a pepper spray gun resembling a handgun.

Epperson has been lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of Menacing, Disorderly Conduct, and Theft in the third degree.

The Ashland Police Department expressed gratitude for the assistance from partner agencies, which contributed to the swift and safe resolution of the situation.


All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
