Woman Walking on Train Tracks Killed in Lane County

Junction City, Oregon- Lane County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene of a train versus pedestrian collision this morning, shortly after 11:30 am. The incident occurred just north of Junction City along the Union Pacific rail lines.

It was revealed that a southbound train operated by Union Pacific had collided with a person who had been walking along the tracks. Despite efforts by the train operators to warn her with the horn, the pedestrian, who was identified as an adult female, appeared to be unaware of the approaching train.

Initial investigations into the incident suggest that the woman had been facing away from the oncoming train as it approached. Despite the audible warning from the train’s horn, she failed to respond, leading to the fatal collision. Tragically, the train was unable to come to a halt in time to avoid the impact.

Regrettably, the collision resulted in the woman being pronounced deceased at the scene. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that she succumbed to her injuries upon impact.

Railroad employees, affected by the incident, remained on-site and are fully cooperating with law enforcement officials as they conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic collision.

Authorities urge the public to exercise extreme caution near railroad tracks, emphasizing the importance of remaining aware of one’s surroundings at all times, especially in areas where trains are known to pass.

The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety precautions around railway crossings and the devastating consequences that can result from negligence or unawareness.

Authorities are continuing to gather information and will provide updates as they become available.
