Eagle Point Police Equip Life-Saving AEDs in All Patrol Vehicles

Eagle Point, Oregon– In a stride towards enhancing emergency response capabilities, the Eagle Point Police Department has announced the integration of new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in all police vehicles. This initiative comes to fruition through a generous grant from the Robert and Frances Chaney Family Foundation, aimed at bolstering community health and safety.

The department’s endeavor to secure funding from the Chaney Foundation has resulted in the acquisition of 10 state-of-the-art Cardiac Science G3 AEDs, strategically designated to be stationed in all police vehicles. The primary objective behind this deployment is to ensure swift and efficient response and care for individuals experiencing cardiac arrest incidents within the Eagle Point vicinity.

Critical to the success of this initiative has been the collaborative effort between the Eagle Point Police Department and Jackson County Fire District #3. In partnership with FD3, Lieutenant Brian Simonsen provided comprehensive training sessions to police officers, focusing on the proper handling, maintenance, and utilization protocols of the AEDs. Armed with this crucial knowledge, certified officers are now poised to deploy the AEDs effectively in emergency situations.

The significance of rapid defibrillation cannot be overstated, especially considering the alarming statistics provided by the American Heart Association, which indicates over 350,000 cardiac arrests occurring outside of hospitals annually. Positioned as the third vital link in the Chain of Survival, defibrillation, when administered promptly following activation of 911 and CPR, significantly enhances the chances of survival.

By strategically placing AEDs in patrol cars, the Eagle Point Police Department aims to bridge crucial response time gaps, as police officers are often first responders already in the field, potentially closer to the incident location than EMS personnel. This proactive approach ensures immediate intervention, early defibrillation, and seamless coordination with EMS services, thereby augmenting survival and recovery rates for the community.

Expressing gratitude towards the Chaney Family Foundation for their support, as well as Chief Hussey and the dedicated members of Fire District 3 for their invaluable training assistance, the Eagle Point Police Department reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding and enhancing the well-being of the citizens they serve.
