Oregon Man Loses Life in Farming Accident

Corvallis, Oregon– On February 1, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the Corvallis Fire Department responded to an incident at a dairy farm located south of Corvallis. The unfortunate event resulted in the loss of the life of 56-year-old David Breyman III of Dallas.

Upon arrival, deputies found Breyman unconscious, not breathing, and without a pulse. Despite immediate efforts by both deputies and citizens on the scene, their attempts at life-saving measures proved unsuccessful. Corvallis Fire Department personnel arrived and assisted in extricating Breyman by removing a part of the wall. However, their subsequent life-saving attempts were also unsuccessful.

The incident involved a truck carrying 27 tons of corn meal feed. Breyman, who was alone at the time, was in the process of unloading the feed using the trailer’s mechanism. It was observed that the feed caused the gate to swing open, pinning Breyman against the barn wall.

A farm worker in proximity heard Breyman’s cry for help and promptly used his phone to call for assistance. He also took immediate action to shut off the trailer’s unloading mechanism to prevent further complications.

David Breyman III, a resident of Dallas, Oregon, was employed by a trucking and feed company based out of Polk County. Sheriff Jef Van Arsdall expressed condolences, stating, “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family. Your dedication to putting food on our tables does not go unnoticed, and we’re terribly sorry for your loss.”

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the risks inherent in agricultural and industrial settings, highlighting the importance of safety protocols in such environments. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
