Medford, Oregon– On the evening of February 1, at approximately 8:43 PM, Medford Police responded to 911 calls reporting shots fired in the vicinity of Poplar Drive at Progress Drive. One caller reported being targeted by an unknown assailant while fleeing the area. MPD patrol units were on the scene within minutes, where evidence and eyewitness accounts revealed a gunfire exchange involving three men associated with a nearby apartment.
At this initial stage, it remains uncertain if anyone sustained injuries during the incident. One of the involved suspects is believed to have fled on foot, while MPD detectives took two individuals into custody. The investigation, extending into the early morning hours, revealed that all three subjects had a prior association.
The arrested suspects, both recently released from prison, are identified as follows:
Suspect #1: Matthew Ryan Pierpoint (38 years old), of Medford
Parole Violation – Felony Strangulation/Domestic Violence
Suspect #2: Devon James Wright (30 years old), of Medford
Parole Violation – Felon in Possession of a Firearm
While the investigation is ongoing, an additional suspect has been identified and remains at large. At present, it is believed that no injuries occurred during the gunfire exchange.
The listed suspects, now in custody, were arrested for violating parole, and as the investigation progresses, additional felony charges may be added.
