Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Announces 2024 Citizens’ Academy

Medford, Oregon- The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) recently announced their upcoming Citizens’ Academy, scheduled to kick off towards the end of February 2024. Applications are currently being accepted, with the deadline set for Friday, February 2nd, 2024. Prospective attendees will be notified of their acceptance by Friday, February 9th, 2024.

JCSO says the Citizens’ Academy offers a comprehensive curriculum, providing citizens and community leaders with an in-depth understanding of law enforcement operations. Participants can expect a diverse range of topics, including a presentation from the Sheriff, a tour of the Jackson County Jail, defensive tactics, canine demonstrations, the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, insights into illegal drugs and their effects, lethal threat management, and a firearms demonstration at the range.

Moreover, the academy will feature sessions such as a case walkthrough from the Criminal Investigations Division, a presentation from the Special Victims’ Unit, information on the Medical Examiner Program, civil processes, and search and rescue training.

Important details for interested applicants:

  • Dates: The academy will commence on February 20th and conclude on May 14th.
  • Schedule: Classes will be held on Tuesday nights from 6 pm to 9 pm, with some Saturday mid-morning additional hands-on classes.
  • Attendance: Regular attendance is mandatory, and there are limited openings available.

To be eligible for the Citizens’ Academy, attendees must be over the age of 18 and able to pass a criminal background check. Previous or current involvement with the community is highly encouraged.

While the class is not currently offered in a bilingual option, plans are underway to introduce this option in the future.
