Medford, Oregon- As winter weather approaches, the Medford School District (MSD) is reminding the community of its comprehensive severe weather protocols to ensure the safety of students and staff.
When severe weather is anticipated, MSD closely collaborates with the National Weather Service to monitor forecasts. In preparation for potential snow or ice affecting transportation, the district, in conjunction with its transportation company, dispatches drivers in the early morning hours, starting around 4:00 a.m., to assess road conditions.
If roads within the district’s boundaries are deemed unsafe for driving, and there is no forecasted improvement, the district will make the decision to either delay or close school. This critical decision will be finalized by approximately 5:30 a.m. on the affected day.
MSD encourages families to proactively prepare by reviewing the designated snow routes to determine whether their child’s bus route will be affected.
For a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding severe weather procedures, please visit the district’s website here. MSD says they appreciate the community’s cooperation and proactive engagement in promoting a safe learning environment during winter weather conditions.
