Josephine County, Oregon – On December 8, 2023, at around 5:54 p.m., the Oregon State Police responded to an incident on Interstate 5 southbound near milepost 75, close to Wolf Creek in Josephine County. The incident involved a pedestrian struck by a commercial motor vehicle.
The victim has been identified as Tami Lee, a 62-year-old resident of Medford. According to the preliminary investigation, Ms. Lee was operating a Kia when she is believed to have struck an animal. In an attempt to assess the situation, she exited her vehicle and tragically was struck in the slow lane by a Freightliner commercial motor vehicle.
Bradley Dean Guile, a 65-year-old resident of Elmira and the operator of the Freightliner, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the subsequent investigation. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Tami Lee was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident led to a temporary closure of the highway for approximately one hour. The Oregon State Police were assisted in their response efforts by Wolf Creek Fire, Rural Metro Fire, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities work to gather more details and determine the sequence of events leading to this tragic loss of life.
