Medford Police Provide Details of Shooting Suspect’s Arrest After Wild Chase

Medford, Oregon– In a swift and coordinated operation, the Medford Police Department successfully took 37-year-old Michael Joseph Gregory Seems into custody on December 6 at approximately 4:15 PM. Seems was identified as a suspect in connection with a shooting that transpired on December 5 at 2115 Roberts Road.

Acting on intelligence gathered early in the investigation, Medford Police detectives actively pursued Seems, leading to a dramatic apprehension on Interstate 5, northbound.

At around 3:30 PM, a Medford Police detective spotted Seems as a passenger in a vehicle within Medford, initiating a pursuit that culminated in the city of Gold Hill.

The vehicle briefly evaded the attempted traffic stop but was eventually halted on Lampman Road, adjacent to the Rogue River. Seems, determined to avoid capture, fled from the vehicle, descending an embankment and entering the river. Negotiations ensued as officers worked to persuade Seems to exit the river, where he became trapped on rocks, partially submerged and uncooperative.

After a brief standoff, officers successfully rescued Seems from the river, assisting him up the bank, and ultimately taking him into custody. The firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered at the scene.

All known witnesses and participants involved in the case have been identified and interviewed, providing crucial insights into the incident. Michael Seems now faces multiple charges, including Attempted Murder and Assault in the First Degree. He will be lodged at the Jackson County jail.

The Medford Police Department expresses its gratitude to the collaborative efforts of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Central Point Police Department, and the Oregon State Police for their invaluable assistance in apprehending Seems.

The victim, who confronted Seems and two others loitering near the back of his apartment, is on the path to recovery from injuries sustained during the shooting. The Medford Police Department continues to work diligently to ensure justice is served in this case.
