Record Turnout at Annual Southern Oregon Runners Turkey Trot

In a display of community spirit, over 1400 runners laced up their shoes for the Annual Southern Oregon Runners Turkey Trot in Talent this morning. The event, which featured 8-mile, 5k, and 2-mile races, kicked off at 8 am, marking a new chapter in the history of this local Thanksgiving tradition.

Organizers were thrilled by the record-breaking attendance, declaring it the largest turnout in the event’s storied history. The brisk 40-degree weather didn’t deter participants, as kids, families, and a diverse mix of both amateur and serious runners embraced the challenges.

The runs, all starting at the Cummins campus, took participants on a scenic journey, south along the Bear Creek Greenway. As the runners traversed the route, the atmosphere buzzed with determination and camaraderie. The return leg brought them back to the Cummins parking lot, completing a circuit that showcased the natural beauty of the Rogue Valley.

Beyond the joy of running and the festive atmosphere, this year’s Turkey Trot held special significance. The event served as a platform to support the “Shoes For Student Runners” initiative, a local cause aimed at providing running shoes for area students passionate about cross country or track but facing financial hurdles.

The Southern Oregon running community united not only for their love of running but also to contribute to the athletic dreams of aspiring students. The success of this year’s Turkey Trot not only echoes the spirit of Thanksgiving but also underscores the power of a community coming together for a meaningful cause.

As the sun warmed up the crowd in Talent and the last runner crossed the finish line, it was evident that this Turkey Trot was more than a race—it was a celebration of community, athleticism, and philanthropy.
