The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) is actively investigating a homicide that transpired in the early hours of the morning on Cleveland Street in Shady Cove.
At approximately 2:02 a.m., ECSO Dispatch received a distress call reporting a home invasion burglary, where a homeowner had reportedly shot a suspect.
JCSO deputies responded to the scene, accompanied by Mercy Flights medics who attempted life-saving measures. Officials say the suspect was pronounced deceased at 2:34 a.m.
The investigation is centering on claims of self-defense invoked by the occupant of the residence. Notably, the homeowner possessed a valid protection order against the now-deceased suspect.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and all involved parties are actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Upon the completion of the investigation, JCSO detectives will transfer the case to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for comprehensive review.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case and its ongoing status, the identities of those involved will not be disclosed at this juncture, according to JCSO personnel.
