Elderly Man Shoots Self Inside Salem Police Station

The Salem Police Department has announced the closure of its station lobby until Monday morning, November 13, at 8:00 a.m. The closure follows an traffic incident that unfolded around 1:00 p.m.

At that time, an 80-year-old man entered the vestibule of the police station, producing a shotgun from a bag he carried and proceeded in taking his own life.

Officers immediately responded, discovering the man deceased from a gunshot wound upon arrival. As is customary in cases of suicide, the identity of the victim will not be disclosed.
