On Friday, October 13, 2023, at 8:44 p.m., the Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash near milepost 263 in Marion County.
Preliminary findings from the investigation revealed that a southbound Honda CRV, driven by Michael James Stevenson (45) of Salem, collided with a pedestrian, Arnulfo Acosta Chavez (52) from Aurora, who was crossing the interstate.
OSP reports that Arnulfo Acosta Chavez lost his life at the scene of the accident.
In the aftermath of the collision, both the Honda’s operator, Michael Stevenson, and a passenger, Laura Ann Stevenson (53) of Salem, sustained minor injuries. They were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Authorities say that Michael Stevenson cooperated with investigators, and remaining at the scene.
The Oregon State Police received assistance from the Woodburn Fire department and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) in managing the incident.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and further details may emerge as it progresses.
