ODF Launches Aggressive Response to Heppsie Mountain Fire

In a swift and proactive attack, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) has sprung into action to combat the newly discovered Heppsie Mountain Fire, situated to the south of Highway 140 and southeast of Lakecreek. The firefighting agency wasted no time, launching an aggressive initial attack on the blaze earlier today.

Numerous firefighting engines have already been deployed to the scene, their crews are working to contain the fire’s spread. Alongside them, ODF’s Type 2 helicopter is on site, assisting to suppress the flames from the air.

ODF has also escalated the efforts by summoning a Type 1 helicopter, which is currently en route to reinforce the operation. Additionally, plans are in motion to secure an air tanker for a strategic retardant drop, furthering the multi-pronged approach to contain the fire’s advancement.


The Heppsie Mountain Fire is holding at an estimated 7-10 acres tonight.

Fire activity is limited at this time. Additional resources have been brought on to staff the fire overnight to continue building line and mopping up.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management are holding the evacuation notices listed below overnight.
