A shooting and a fatal crash in the Mill Park Neighborhood of Portland has prompted the involvement of the Major Crash Team (MCT), the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST), and the Focused Intervention Team (FIT) in an ongoing investigation.


On Saturday, July 8, 2023, at approximately 10:19 p.m., East Precinct officers rushed to the scene at Southeast 102nd Avenue and Southeast Washington Street in response to a reported crash. Upon arrival, they discovered two vehicles involved, with one of them rolled over. Shockingly, one of the drivers was found to have sustained a gunshot wound. Additionally, an occupant from the other vehicle suffered serious life-threatening injuries, leading officers to administer CPR at the scene.
Emergency services transported both individuals to the hospital, where they received immediate medical attention. The individual with the gunshot wound is currently undergoing treatment, while the passenger from the second vehicle tragically succumbed to their injuries.
The Portland Police Traffic Division MCT, in conjunction with the ECST and FIT, is actively investigating the incident. Presently, authorities do not believe the shooting occurred at the crash location, and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
This incident marks the 34th crash-related fatality in Portland this year, with six occurring within the last 16 days alone. Authorities say they remain committed to addressing these alarming trends and ensuring the safety of the community.
