At approximately 10:57a this morning, ECSO 911 operators began receiving calls about a fire off I5 in north Medford.

Witnesses told authorities they saw black smoke coming from an area near a homeless encampment.
Medford Fire (MFD), Jackson County Fire District 3 (JCFD3), and ODF units were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, MFD personnel confirmed there was an approximate 100ft x 100ft grass fire in the area. The fire was described as “slow moving” which allowed crews to contain it quickly.
Medford Police (MPD) and a MFD fire investigator have also responded to the fire and are looking into the suspicious incident.
Several previously-dispatched incoming fire units were canceled, as firefighters believe there is no current threat of additional spread. Mop-up work is ongoing at this time. Currently there are no evacuation orders, or official cause if the fire.
No additional information is available at this time.
