Police Make Arrest in Connection with Greenway Fires

On July 23, 2022 at 5:48pm Medford Police Officers and Medford Fire were dispatched to a report of a grassfire near the greenway just north of E. McAndrews Rd. and west of Interstate 5. Upon arrival Officers found that multiple fires had been started along the greenway. Multiple subjects were contacted in the area and questioned. No one was taken into custody at that time. At approximately 6:30p Medford Police Officers and Medford Fire were sent to a report of an additional grassfire located south of Rossanley Dr. and west of N. Central Ave near the railroad tracks. Upon arrival it was found once again that multiple small fires had been started by an unknown suspect. Here is the link to coverage of this fire.

At approximately 8:30pm the Central Point Police Department lodged Jorge Cabrera at the Jackson County Jail after he was observed trying to start an additional fire along the greenway in their city.

Medford Police Officers later questioned Cabrera and ultimately charged him with Arson 1 and Recklessly Endangering another person in relation to the originally reported greenway fire. The fire at Rossanley Dr/N.Central Av is still under investigation.
