Helicopter Water Drops Used in Massive Two-Alarm House Fire

Rural Metro Fire and ODF crews will be mopping up into the night, at what remains of a large, 2-story home at the end of Blue Water Lane near the Applegate River.

The home was fully involved and collapsing when first units arrived, requiring crews to focus on the spread of fire into surrounding brush. The occupants escaped unharmed.

One spot fire erupted on the other side of the Applegate River, growing to approximately 2/10ths of an acre by the time ODF caught it. An ODF helo was called in to patrol for additional spots, but was also used to help cool the structure.

The fire reached 2nd alarm, pulling in multiple units including Grants Pass Fire Rescue, Applegate l Valley Fire District, Williams Rural Fire Protection District, Jackson County Fire District #1 and the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
