Last night at about 9:00 p.m., in the 3100 block of Juniper Ridge Drive, Carlos Sanders, 60 years old, reported his apartment was burglarized, and had confronted a neighbor. As two officers were walking up to the scene, Sanders fired several rounds from a handgun into the air. Sanders retreated into his apartment and barricaded himself. SWAT and crisis negotiators responded to the scene, but negotiations were not successful. At about 3:00 a.m. SWAT forced entry into the apartment and took Sanders into custody. He was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Unlawful Use of a Firearm.
Kayla Ellis, 31, was arrested for Disorderly Conduct at Lava Lanes. After she was taken into custody, she was able to kick an officer in the face twice. The officer is okay, and Ellis was charged with Assaulting a Police Officer.

Officers responded to a car that crashed into a pole, at Stewart Avenue and Newtown Street. Both occupants were unconscious and the vehicle was on fire. Officers pulled one from the vehicle and Medford Fire and Rescue used the Jaws of Life to extricate the passenger. The passenger was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The Serious Accident and Rescontruction Team (STAR) responded. Alcohol is a contributing factor and the case remains under investigation.
A 1995 Honda Accord eluded officers in the downtown area. The vehicle was found unnocupied and seized. The suspect remains outstanding.
Two other suspects were arrested for domestic violence charges. One person was arrested for DUII last night.
