Crews Mobilize Helicopters and Ground Resources to Battle West Fork Evans Creek Fire

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. (Oct. 15, 2026) — Firefighters are battling a growing wildfire along West Fork Evans Creek Road in Jackson County, where winds along the ridgetops are contributing to fire activity and pushing flames eastward.

As of 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, the West Fork Evans Creek Fire had grown to an estimated 30 acres, doubling in size from an earlier estimate of 15 acres.

The fire is burning outside the East Evans Creek Fire burn scar, with crews conducting an aggressive initial attack to contain the flames and prevent further spread.

Fire officials said divisions have been established to coordinate suppression efforts as additional firefighting resources respond to the scene.

Among the additional resources ordered are four water tenders, three hand crews, four engines and two fallers.

Earlier in the response, firefighters requested two Type 1 helicopters and an additional bulldozer to assist with suppression efforts.

Winds along the ridgetops have contributed to increased fire activity, with the fire continuing to push east as crews work to establish containment.

Authorities are asking the public to avoid the West Fork Evans Creek Road area to allow firefighters and incoming equipment to safely access the fire.

No information regarding containment, threatened structures or the cause of the fire was provided in the latest update.

Firefighters remain actively engaged in suppression operations, with additional updates expected as more information becomes available.
