CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (Oct. 15, 2026) — Emergency crews rescued a woman Wednesday after she fell approximately 20 feet into a well containing 12 feet of standing water, where she remained for about two hours before authorities were notified.
Jackson County Fire District 3 responded to the incident Oct. 14 alongside the Central Point Police Department and Mercy Flights.
According to Fire District 3, the woman fell into the well after an old, unsupported piece of plywood covering the opening inside a well house gave way.
The woman remained trapped for approximately two hours before someone contacted 911.
Firefighters from Engines 20, 21 and 22 and Rescue 22 worked alongside Central Point police officers to conduct the rescue.
Using a ladder and specialized hauling system, emergency responders successfully brought the woman to the surface approximately 30 to 35 minutes after rescue operations began.
Fire officials said the woman sustained minor injuries from the fall and received medical treatment from emergency medical personnel.
Despite the approximately 20-foot fall and extended time spent inside the well, authorities reported no serious injuries.
Fire District 3 thanked the firefighters, police officers and emergency medical personnel who assisted with the coordinated rescue effort.
