EUGENE, Ore. (Sep. 24, 2026) — Starbucks announced Thursday that it will close approximately 250 coffeehouses across North America later this week, marking the second major round of store closures by the company in roughly a year.
The Seattle-based coffee company said the closures follow a review of its North American store portfolio. Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams said the affected locations either have not consistently delivered the customer and employee experience the company expects or do not have a path toward acceptable financial performance. The 250 closures represent about 1% of Starbucks’ more than 18,000 North American coffeehouses.
The company has not released a complete public list of all 250 locations. However, Oregon locations identified for closure in the latest round include stores in Milwaukie, Portland and Eugene. A Milwaukie location at 14585 Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard and a Portland location at 2880 Southeast Powell Boulevard have been identified as among the stores expected to close.
In Eugene, the Starbucks at 2830 Willamette St., which became the first Starbucks in Oregon to unionize in 2022, is scheduled to close Saturday, Sept. 26. Starbucks said the closure was based on an evaluation of customer experience and financial performance and was not related to the store’s union status.
No Starbucks locations in the Medford metro area are currently expected to close as part of this latest round.
The announcement comes nearly one year after Starbucks announced a much larger restructuring that included the closure of hundreds of stores. In September 2025, Starbucks closed 627 stores across North America and Europe and eliminated approximately 900 non-retail positions.
That 2025 restructuring significantly affected Oregon, with 13 Oregon Starbucks locations closing, including two in Medford. The Medford closures involved the stores at 2372 W. Main St. and 1730 Delta Waters Road.
Starbucks said its latest closures are part of its broader “Back to Starbucks” strategy, which includes improving existing coffeehouses and customer service. The company said it is accelerating work to complete upgrades at 1,500 locations.
Starbucks has not yet provided a complete breakdown of the 250 closures by state or announced the final closing dates for every affected location.
For the Rogue Valley, the latest announcement means the Medford area stores that survived last year’s restructuring are not currently identified among the locations slated for closure.
