Medford Man Arrested on Rape, Sexual Abuse Charges Involving Teen

MEDFORD, Ore. (Aug. 17, 2026) — Jackson County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a 20-year-old Medford man Monday in connection with an investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl.

Evan James Sutherlin was arrested at a business in the 500 block of the Medford Center, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-degree rape, third-degree sexual abuse and first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse.

The investigation began June 2, 2026, when Jackson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that a then-19-year-old man was sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in the Jacksonville area.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit took over the investigation and continued gathering evidence before Sutherlin’s arrest.

Investigators said they believe Sutherlin may have additional victims and are asking anyone with information about him to contact Special Victims Unit Detective Jill Wenzel at 541-770-8928.

The investigation remains ongoing.
