CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (Aug. 9, 2026) — Firefighters were battling a wind-driven grass and brush fire Sunday evening along Redwood Highway near Cave Junction, with the blaze estimated at 8 to 10 acres by 5:20 p.m. The fire has been named the “Forks Park Fire.”
The fire was moving at a moderate rate of spread, with winds pushing flames and creating spot fires ahead of the main fire, officials said.
Firefighters were conducting an aggressive initial attack, with ground crews working to contain the fire while aircraft made water bucket drops.
Additional aircraft had been requested, including air tankers, a lead plane, three Type 1 helicopters and two Type 2 helicopters.
The fire was initially reported Sunday afternoon as a grass fire along Redwood Highway. At 5:05 p.m., the fire was estimated at 3 to 5 acres and burning in brush and grass.

Additional information was expected as firefighting operations continued.

Officials urged motorists and residents to avoid the area and give emergency crews room to work.
ODF UPDATE:
Firefighters have knocked down the main body of the Fork State Park Fire, along with the approximately 0.1-acre spot fire on the south side. The fire is currently estimated at 10-12 acres.
Crews are continuing to strengthen line around the fire and secure the perimeter. Night resources have been ordered to continue suppression efforts into the evening.
Aircraft are gradually being released from the fire and staged at the Illinois Valley Airport, where they remain available if conditions change and additional air support is needed.
Firefighters continue working along Redwood Highway. Please slow down, use caution and give crews plenty of room to work.
