GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Jul. 30, 2026) — Authorities are continuing to search for a Grants Pass man accused of a violent crime spree Thursday morning that began with a reported domestic disturbance and escalated into an alleged carjacking, police pursuit, multiple crashes and an extensive multi-agency manhunt.
According to the Grants Pass Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:22 a.m. on July 30 to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence in the 1400 block of Northeast Meier Drive. Investigators determined the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Anthony Teal, had fled through the back door before officers arrived.
Following their investigation, officers established probable cause to arrest Teal on charges of strangulation and menacing. Police continued searching the surrounding area.
At approximately 7:57 a.m., dispatchers received reports that Teal was attempting to steal a vehicle near Northeast D Street and Beacon Drive. Police said Teal allegedly pulled the driver from the vehicle, but the victim attempted to retain control as Teal accelerated onto Northeast D Street with the victim still hanging onto the vehicle.
Authorities said Teal then collided with another vehicle driven by a motorist who had stopped after witnessing the alleged carjacking. The impact was strong enough to deploy the airbags in the second vehicle.
Police said Teal then reversed the stolen vehicle while the victim continued to be dragged before stopping briefly to shift gears. The driver was able to free himself before Teal fled the area. The victim was treated at the scene by American Medical Response for injuries that were not disclosed.
Within two minutes of the reported carjacking, a Josephine County Sheriff’s Office deputy located the stolen vehicle near the railroad bridge on the Grants Pass Parkway and attempted a traffic stop. Police said Teal fled, leading deputies toward the South Y intersection before driving into oncoming traffic.
The pursuit was terminated because the danger to the public became too great, authorities said.
Despite the pursuit ending, callers continued reporting Teal driving recklessly, including running a red light and traveling in center and turn lanes while fleeing. Law enforcement eventually lost sight of the vehicle.
While searching the Redwood Avenue area, officers located the stolen vehicle abandoned following a crash near Leonard Road and Willow Lane. Investigators determined Teal had already fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.
A large-scale search involving the Grants Pass Police Department, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, the Grants Pass Police Major Crimes Unit and the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement team followed. K-9 units and an unmanned aircraft system, or drone, were also deployed, but Teal was not located.
Police said officers have continued investigating numerous public tips regarding Teal’s whereabouts.
Teal is described as a white male standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing between 170 and 200 pounds. He has a bald head, green eyes and a beard. Surveillance images captured during his escape show him wearing a light gray shirt, black shorts and black shoes.
Authorities warned the public not to approach Teal if he is seen. Anyone who locates him is urged to call 911 immediately.
In addition to the domestic violence-related allegations, Teal is wanted on charges of first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a vehicle, attempting to elude police, failure to perform the duties of a driver at the scene of a crash, reckless driving and reckless endangering.
The investigation has been turned over to the Grants Pass Police Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information about Teal’s whereabouts or the investigation is asked to contact detectives at 541-450-6260.
