MEDFORD, Ore. (Jun. 1, 2026) — A 21-year-old man has been arrested on multiple felony charges following a late-night shooting near a north Medford restaurant that left a 19-year-old man hospitalized, police said.
Officers with the Medford Police Department responded at approximately 11:40 p.m. Friday to reports of shots fired at the In-N-Out Burger restaurant on Crater Lake Highway.
When officers arrived, they found a 19-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound, along with three other individuals outside a vehicle that had crashed into a tree in a nearby parking lot.
According to a preliminary investigation, the occupants of the vehicle fled the area immediately after the shooting. While attempting to leave, the vehicle lost control and collided with a tree. Emergency responders transported the injured victim to a local hospital, where he was treated and admitted for his injuries.
During the investigation, officers located and detained a suspect in the parking lot of the nearby Target shopping center. Detectives and forensic personnel responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
Police later identified the suspect as Ivan Ortiz, 21. Following the investigation, Ortiz was arrested and lodged in jail on charges of first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the condition of the victim.
