MEDFORD, Ore. (May. 29, 2026) — A bathroom exhaust fan fire in a west Medford home Tuesday afternoon caused minimal damage after occupants quickly intervened and firefighters arrived within minutes, authorities said.
Medford Firefighters Local 824 said crews were dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. on May 27 to a reported structure fire in the 1200 block of Locust Street, just west of downtown. Engine 12 arrived on scene within three minutes and found a single-family residence with no visible smoke or flames showing from the exterior.
Fire officials said the occupants reported the fire had started in a bathroom ceiling exhaust fan. Before firefighters arrived, they were able to apply water to the fire and shut off electrical power to the affected area by isolating the breaker.
Crews from Engine 12 completed extinguishment using a water can and confirmed the fire was fully out upon arrival. No injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters.
Officials credited both the occupants’ rapid response and the quick arrival of fire crews for limiting the damage to the area where the fire originated. The residents were able to remain in the home with minimal disruption.
Medford Firefighters thanked mutual aid partners and the Medford Police Department for assisting on the incident.
