Cause Under Investigation After Central Point Grass Fire

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (May. 16, 2026) — Fire crews contained a grass fire Saturday afternoon along Table Rock Road in Central Point after flames spread through tall grass near homes and vegetation, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded around 4:35 p.m. to the 5000 block of Table Rock Road, north of Bateman Drive and south of Latigo Lane. The fire was estimated at about a quarter-acre and was described as slow moving.

Multiple Jackson County Fire District 3 units worked to keep the fire from spreading toward nearby structures and surrounding brush. Firefighters used brush trucks and “pump and roll” tactics to attack the flames in the grass while establishing containment lines.

By 5:05 p.m., officials said the fire had been “wet lined,” meaning crews had surrounded the perimeter with water to stop further spread. Firefighters remained on scene conducting mop-up operations to extinguish hot spots.

Officials advised the public to avoid the area and smoke while crews worked.

No injuries or structural damage were immediately reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
