Grants Pass Woman Killed in Highway 97 Head-On Crash

KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. (Mar. 20, 2026) — A 76-year-old Grants Pass woman was killed Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near Chiloquin, according to the Oregon State Police.

Troopers responded to the crash around 7:49 p.m. near milepost 236. A preliminary investigation found that a red Dodge Ram pulling a trailer, driven by Sue Anne Evans, was traveling northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane for unknown reasons.

The Dodge collided head-on with a gray Ford F-550 towing a trailer and forklift, driven by Chad Everett Hayes, 44, of Walla Walla, Washington.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Hayes suffered reported minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The highway was impacted for about six hours while crews investigated and cleared the scene.

The Oregon State Police were assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation.
