MEDFORD, Ore. (Mar. 12, 2026) — Police are investigating a report of gunshots late Wednesday night near a residential area west of downtown, authorities said.
Officers with the Medford Police Department responded at about 9:28 p.m. March 11 to reports of gunfire near West 8th Street and Hamilton Street. An officer who was already nearby reported hearing several gunshots and arrived in the area shortly after the incident occurred.
Additional officers responded, and one officer was flagged down by a citizen near the intersection. The witness told police they heard gunshots and saw a white, lowered pickup truck leaving the area.
Investigators said officers located and recovered evidence at the scene consistent with shots being fired.
While officers were still in the area, a vehicle matching the witness’s description was spotted nearby. Police conducted a traffic stop after the driver pulled into a residence, and two occupants were detained. Officers later identified and contacted additional individuals believed to have been involved in the incident.
Authorities said there is currently no indication that anyone was injured.
Investigators believe an altercation occurred between several people and that, during the confrontation, a firearm was produced and discharged into the air. Police said it has not yet been determined who fired the weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said there is no known continuing threat to the public.
