Fire District 3 Announces Death of Retired Firefighter Preston Britton

WHITE CITY, Ore. (Feb. 10, 2026) — Retired Jackson County Fire District 3 firefighter Preston Britton has died after a short battle with cancer, the district announced.

Britton served the community for 22 years, retiring Dec. 31, 2023. During his career, he was known for his steady leadership, dedication to public service and commitment to mentoring youth, colleagues said.

“Throughout his career, Preston embodied service to our communities and to our youth and was the kind of firefighter others relied on: steady, experienced, and deeply committed to the job and the people he served,” the district said in a statement.

Colleagues described Britton as a trusted teammate whose warmth and compassion left a lasting impression on those he worked with and served.

“Our thoughts are with Preston’s family, friends, and his brothers and sisters in the fire service and school district during this difficult time,” the district said.
