GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Jan. 22, 2026) — A 39-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries after being stabbed Wednesday night at a residence in Grants Pass, and a woman was taken into custody, police said.
The Grants Pass Police Department said officers responded around 8:30 p.m. to a home in the 1000 block of Northeast A Street after 911 call takers reported hearing a disturbance in the background while speaking with a resident. When officers arrived, they found the man suffering from stab wounds to his upper body.
Grants Pass Fire/Rescue and American Medical Response provided medical aid before transporting the victim to Three Rivers Medical Center. Authorities said he sustained significant injuries but is expected to recover.
Because of the severity of the case, the Grants Pass Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation around 9 p.m. Detectives worked through the night and into the early morning hours, ultimately arresting Heidi Smith, 42, police said. She was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
Police said no additional information about the victim will be released at this time.
All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
