REDMOND, Ore. (Jan. 1, 2026) — Authorities in Central Oregon are asking for the public’s help locating a person of interest in connection with a deadly shooting in Redmond.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded at 5:57 a.m. on Dec. 31 to a report of a gunshot victim near Northeast Greenwood Avenue and Northeast 17th Street, an area known locally as “Redmond Dirt World.”
When deputies arrived, they found 32-year-old Justin Garrett Jiminez dead from a gunshot wound, the sheriff’s office said. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the victim’s family has been notified.
Investigators have identified the person of interest as 51-year-old Don Henry Vandenberg Jr., who detectives say goes by the nickname “Tank.” He is described as a white male, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds, bald, with facial hair and numerous tattoos.
According to investigators, Vandenberg’s tattoos include “Fit for Duty” across his chest, “Tank” on his upper abdomen, an Ace of Spades on his upper left arm, an image on the back of his neck, “EK” on his right calf, and additional tattoos on his forearms.
Authorities said Vandenberg is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone who sees him or has information about his whereabouts is urged to call 911 immediately.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been announced.
