Ashland Reviewing Agreement After Asante Announces Hospital Transition

ASHLAND, Ore. (Dec 4, 2025)— The City of Ashland is alerting residents to significant upcoming changes at Ashland Community Hospital after Asante announced plans to transition the facility into a satellite campus of Rogue Regional Medical Center by spring 2026.

Asante said the shift will include closing Ashland Community Hospital’s independent inpatient hospital license and operating the site instead under Rogue Regional’s existing license. Emergency services will continue around the clock, and outpatient operations — including surgery, imaging and laboratory services — are expected to remain at the Maple Street campus. Asante has also published an online FAQ addressing the transition.

City officials said the announcement has generated questions in the community, but emphasized that the decision rests solely with Asante and that the City had no role in shaping the plan. The City said it will continue to distribute confirmed information as it becomes available.

City Reviewing Longstanding Agreement

The transition comes as an existing affiliation agreement between the City and Asante remains in effect. When the hospital was transferred to Asante, the agreement required the facility to operate as a general hospital through 2028. If that condition is not met, Asante agreed to pay the City $4 million.

According to the City, Asante has stated that its plan still meets that requirement because the facility would operate as a satellite location of Rogue Regional, a category recognized under Oregon health regulations.

City officials said no operational changes have taken effect and that the City’s Leadership Team is reviewing the agreement while monitoring Asante’s next steps. No decision has been made regarding possible legal action.

City Stresses Cooperative Approach

Despite the looming transition, City leaders said Ashland’s longstanding partnership with Asante remains in place. Officials said they intend to work collaboratively with the health system and will continue efforts to keep residents fully informed as the situation develops.
