MEDFORD, Ore. (Nov 24, 2025) – Medford Mayor Michael Zarosinski has appointed John Vial to serve as interim city manager following the departure of City Manager Rob Field, the city announced this week.

Vial brings more than three decades of public service experience across Oregon, including 13 years with Jackson County, more than 13 years with the Oregon Department of Transportation, and four years with the City of Medford as public works director. City officials said he has been widely recognized for his thoughtful leadership, depth of experience, and commitment to collaboration and community service.

“John’s deep understanding of our community, his steady leadership, and his long history of public service make him an excellent choice to guide the City during this transition,” stated Mayor Michael Zarosinski. “We are grateful for his dedication to Medford and are excited to welcome him back in this capacity.”

Vial said he is eager to return to the organization. “I am excited to return to the City of Medford and serve in this interim role,” Vial said. “Medford is a community I care deeply about, and I look forward to working with the Mayor, Council, and staff to support the important work happening across the organization.”

The city said the transition process is underway as Vial steps into the role immediately.
