Dog-of-the-Week: Lovable “Tex” Ready for an Active New Family

PHOENIX, Ore. (Nov 10, 2025) — The Jackson County Animal Shelter is shining a spotlight this week on Tex, a lovable and larger-than-life Labrador retriever with a heart as big as his 106-pound frame.

At just about one year old, Tex is still full of that classic puppy enthusiasm — a big, goofy, and social companion who’s eager to learn and ready to explore. Shelter staff describe him as a “sweet and gentle giant” who would thrive in an active home that can help channel his playful energy through training and adventure.

“Tex is a social, outgoing guy who’s learning that sometimes it’s nice to settle down and watch the clouds go by,” a shelter spokesperson said. “He’s eager to please and loves connecting with people — especially if snacks are involved.”

Tex is neutered, fully vaccinated, and up to date on veterinary care. While he’s shown plenty of affection and enthusiasm for human friends, shelter staff say Tex will need a home without cats, chickens, or other small animals. An experienced owner and a home visit with any resident dogs are also recommended before adoption.

Tex is known for his high energy level and strong leash walks, but his eagerness to learn means he’ll benefit greatly from continued training and consistent activity.

Families looking for a fun-loving, adventure-ready companion may find Tex the perfect fit.

Adoption means embarking on a shared adventure filled with learning, unforgettable experiences, and the warm companionship of these lively dogs. The shelter encourages individuals interested in meeting and potentially adopting these lovable animals to reach out. Contact the shelter at 541-774-6654, press 5 for adoptions, and start the process of welcoming these sweethearts into your loving home.
