Bicyclist Killed in Collision with Motorhome Near Central Point

Near Central Point, Oregon- A Central Point man was killed Saturday afternoon when his bicycle was struck by a motorhome on Highway 140 in Jackson County, according to the Oregon State Police.

Troopers responded to the crash around 2:44 p.m. on Oct. 18 near milepost 4. A preliminary investigation found that an eastbound Freightliner recreational vehicle driven by Richard Fay McCoy, 57, of Central Point, struck Wesley Mad Olngellel, 37, also of Central Point, who was riding his bicycle in the eastbound lane.

Olngellel was pronounced dead at the scene. McCoy was uninjured, police said.

Highway 140 was closed for about two hours while investigators examined the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, which investigates fatal and serious-injury crashes across the state, is handling the reconstruction of the incident.
