Medford, Oregon- A 24-year-old Medford man was arrested Tuesday night after authorities say he fired multiple gunshots while walking through a south Medford neighborhood, striking homes and parked vehicles but causing no injuries.
Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to Northridge Terrace around 10:30 p.m. after dispatchers received numerous 911 calls about a man shooting a handgun. Some callers reported hearing gunfire during their calls, while one resident reported that a window of their home had been shot out, officials said.
Deputies identified the suspect as Chase Benjamin Smith, who was later located in an apartment on the 60 block of Northridge Terrace and taken into custody without incident. A search warrant led investigators to recover the firearm believed to have been used in the incident.
Smith was booked into the Jackson County Jail on charges including five counts of unlawful use of a firearm, two counts of reckless endangering, first-degree criminal mischief and second-degree disorderly conduct, according to JCSO.
No injuries were reported, though several houses and unoccupied vehicles were damaged by the gunfire.
The Sheriff’s Office said Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, Phoenix Police Department, Jacksonville Police Department, and Talent Police Department assisted in the response.
The case remains under investigation.
All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
