Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Parts of Jackson, Josephine Counties

Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Medford, Oregon- The National Weather Service in Medford issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning on Tuesday evening for portions of western Jackson County and east-central Josephine County.

The warning remains in effect until 7:15 p.m. as a nearly stationary storm was detected near Cathedral Hills Trails, about 8 miles southwest of Grants Pass, at 6:31 p.m.

Forecasters said the storm is capable of producing quarter-size hail, which could cause damage to vehicles. Radar indicated the threat, with maximum hail size estimated at one inch and wind gusts below 50 mph.

Areas expected to be impacted include Grants Pass, Cathedral Hills Trails, Schroeder Park, Tom Pearce Park, Harbeck-Fruitdale, Redwood, Wilderville and Murphy.

Residents in the warning area are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building until the storm passes.
