Near Ashland, Oregon- The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level 1 “Be Ready” evacuation notice for Zone JAC-448 due to the McDonald Fire burning southwest of Mount Ashland.
The fire is burning on U.S. Forest Service land near the Meridian Overlook and Grouse Gap picnic area behind Mount Ashland. Officials said the blaze has prompted the closure of a section of the Pacific Crest Trail in the area. The public is asked to avoid the fire zone while crews work. Firefighting updates are being provided by the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.
As of 5:50p, multiple air resources and ground units are engaged with the wildfire. Officials estimate the fire to be 4-5 acres in size, this time.
Under a Level 1 “Be Ready” evacuation, residents are advised to prepare for the possibility of evacuation. That includes monitoring official sources for updates, making plans for leaving quickly if needed, and gathering essential supplies such as identification, medications, and emergency kits. Officials also recommend moving pets and livestock early, especially for those who may face challenges with mobility or transportation.
“This may be the only notice you receive,” county officials warned. “Don’t wait to evacuate if you feel unsafe.”
Residents are urged to check on neighbors, share information, and seek help if necessary. Those needing emergency shelter can call 211, 1-866-698-6155, or visit 211info.org. Assistance is available in English and Spanish, and language interpreters can be accessed by phone.
If fire conditions worsen, the evacuation level could be raised to Level 2 “Be Set” or Level 3 “Go Now.”
