Trail, Oregon- Oregon Department of Forestry crews are battling a roadside wildfire reported Tuesday evening along Highway 227 near mile marker 44, between Trail and Drew, prompting traffic delays and warnings for drivers to steer clear of the area.
ODF said a Type 2 helicopter from Medford was over the scene by 7:55 p.m. and estimated the fire’s size at roughly half an acre. The helicopter began making water bucket drops while an engine crew launched an aggressive initial attack. Additional engines were still en route late Tuesday evening.
Law enforcement has been called to assist with traffic control as vehicles back up near the fire. Officials urged motorists to avoid the area if possible for both public and firefighter safety.
Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for an extended period Tuesday night. ODF said more updates will be provided as information becomes available.
