Suspect Killed, Two Officers Injured in Springfield Police Shooting

Springfield, Oregon- A man was fatally shot by police after stabbing two Springfield officers during a confrontation near Gateway Street on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

According to the Springfield Police Department, officers responded to a report of a disorderly individual inside a business near Gateway Street and Beltline Road around 2:37 p.m. on July 30. An officer located the suspect near Gateway Street and Kruse Way, where the man allegedly brandished two knives and threatened the officer.

Police said the officer requested backup, but before additional units arrived, the suspect attacked and stabbed two Springfield officers, causing injuries. Oregon State Police troopers were dispatched to assist.

During the arrest attempt, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Officers rendered emergency medical aid, but the suspect died at the scene, police said.

The injured officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, at this time, no additional information was released.
