


Prospect, Oregon- A Prospect man has been indicted on murder charges following a fatal shooting last week outside the rural Jackson County community, authorities said Monday.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call reporting a gunshot victim at a residence in the 2000 block of Shelly Drive at 1:27 a.m. Thursday, June 5. Deputies detained a suspect at the scene.
The victim, identified as JR Anthony Monteleone III, 47, of Prospect, was transported by a Mercy Flights ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
Chad Allen McPherson, 32, of Prospect, was arrested and is facing charges of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held at the Jackson County Jail. A Jackson County Grand Jury indicted McPherson on Monday, June 10.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office detectives are leading the investigation, with support from Oregon State Police crime lab and detective personnel, JCSO Search and Rescue, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
The public release of information was delayed to allow SAR volunteers to conduct an evidence search. On Monday, June 9, the team successfully located critical evidence in the area.
“This case is active and ongoing,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement, noting that detectives are continuing to follow additional leads. No further information has been released.
