Two Washington Residents Killed in I-5 Crash Near Ashland

Near Ashland, Oregon- Two people were killed Monday afternoon in a crash involving a pickup truck and a commercial vehicle on Interstate 5 near milepost 4 in southern Oregon, authorities said.

According to Oregon State Police, the collision occurred at 3:23 p.m. on May 12 when a northbound Ford F-150 left its lane and struck the trailer of a parked Volvo semi-truck on the shoulder. The Ford was driven by Michael Kevin Kasser, 69, of Issaquah, Washington. He and his passenger, Linda Elaine Kasser, 68, also of Issaquah, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Volvo, identified as Mohamed A. Baioumy, 62, of Moreno Valley, California, was not injured.

The northbound lanes of I-5 were affected for about an hour as crews investigated the scene.

Oregon State Police were assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Cal Fire, Ashland Fire and Rescue, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash.
