Bend, Oregon- A Canadian man has been taken into custody in Canada as part of an extradition process initiated by the United States in connection with the 2023 homicide of a Bend resident.
Cole Nikolaus Sinclair, 25, was provisionally arrested on Dec. 17, 2024, under Canada’s extradition procedures. He remains in custody in Canada pending the outcome of extradition proceedings, the Bend Police Department said Thursday.
Sinclair has been identified by investigators as a suspect in the death of Evelyn Jeanette Weaver, 28, who was found deceased in her Bend residence in July 2023. Authorities have confirmed that Weaver died as a result of homicide. At this stage in the investigation, there is no indication that Sinclair and Weaver were acquainted.
The arrest follows a lengthy investigation conducted by Bend Police, with assistance from the Oregon State Police Forensic Services Division, the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office, and other partner agencies.
Citing legal constraints, the Bend Police Department is not releasing additional details at this time. The case remains under active investigation.
