Man Arrested After Woman Struck by Vehicle in Grants Pass Parking Lot

Grants Pass Parking Lot Assualt

Grants Pass, Oregon- A Grants Pass man was arrested Monday after allegedly striking a woman with his vehicle in a grocery store parking lot, leaving her seriously injured, police said.

The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. in the parking lot of Albertsons on Allen Creek Road. Multiple 9-1-1 calls reported a vehicle hitting a female pedestrian, prompting a rapid response from Grants Pass Police, Oregon State Police, Grants Pass Fire & Rescue, and American Medical Response.

The woman was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Officers arriving at the scene detained the driver, identified later as 38-year-old Derek Daniels. In addition to hitting the woman, Daniels also struck two unoccupied parked vehicles, police said.

Grants Pass Police

Following an investigation by the Grants Pass Major Crimes Team and accident reconstruction specialists, Daniels was arrested at approximately 4:34 p.m.

He was booked into the Josephine County Jail on charges of second-degree assault, reckless driving and unlawful use of a weapon.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. No further details were released.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Grants Pass Police Department.
